How We Use Data (Purposes & Legal Bases)

We use your data to:

  • Provide services & customer care (create accounts, fulfill orders, schedule sessions, support you). Legal basis: contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Process payments & prevent fraud. Legal basis: contract/legal obligation/legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(b)(c)(f)).
  • Send newsletters & updates when you opt in. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) or legitimate interests where permitted; you can unsubscribe anytime.
  • Improve site performance & content via analytics and diagnostics. Legal basis: consent for non‑essential cookies; legitimate interests for essential operations.
  • Comply with law & enforce terms (tax/audit, dispute resolution, abuse prevention). Legal basis: legal obligation/legitimate interests.
  • Use recordings strictly as you allow (private review; educational/portfolio/marketing only with separate written approvals).

We do not make automated decisions that produce legal effects without human involvement.

Cookies, Analytics & Tracking

Our site uses cookies and similar technologies. We keep it simple:

  • Essential cookies run to make the site work (security, load balancing, your cookie choices).
  • Non‑essential cookies (analytics/ads/personalization) run only after you give consent in the cookie banner. You can change your mind anytime through “Cookie Settings” in the footer.
  • Analytics/Tagging (current/planned): We may use Google Tag Manager and analytics or ad pixels (e.g., Google Analytics 4, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn/TikTok). We will honor your choices in the banner and applicable laws (e.g., Consent Mode, Global Privacy Control where supported).

See our separate Cookie Policy for details and the latest cookie list (auto‑generated by our consent tool).

When We Share Data

We share data only with providers who help us run our business, under contracts that limit how they can use your information. Typical categories include:

  • Hosting & Website: WordPress hosting and related plugins/services
  • Email Marketing: Mailchimp (subscription management, email sends)
  • Course Platform: Thinkific (account/course data when courses launch)
  • Payments: Payment processors (e.g., Stripe/PayPal or successors)
  • Analytics/Tagging: vendor tools, as enabled by your cookie choices
  • Support & Operations: form and support tools (if/when implemented)

We do not sell your personal information for money. For U.S. state laws, any “sharing” for cross‑context behavioral advertising happens only if you opt in and can be opted out at any time (see Privacy Choicesbelow).

Data Location & International Transfers

We operate primarily in the United States. If your data is transferred internationally, we rely on valid transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses and/or participation by providers in the EU‑U.S. Data Privacy Framework, plus additional safeguards where appropriate.

Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed to deliver services, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements; then we delete or anonymize it. Examples: – Account & course records: life of the account + a short grace period – Orders/invoices: per tax and accounting laws – Recordings (if opted in): per your consent settings or the timeframe we agree in writing

Your Privacy Choices & Controls

  • Cookie settings: Use the “Cookie Settings” link in our footer to change preferences anytime.
  • Email marketing: Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter.
  • Recording/media: You can revoke future use and request deletion of specific assets by emailing us.
  • Do Not Sell/Share (U.S. states): Use the “Privacy Choices” or “Do Not Sell/Share” link in our footer to opt out of cross‑context behavioral advertising.

Your Rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, U.S. State Laws)

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Delete your data (subject to lawful exceptions)
  • Restrict or Object to certain processing
  • Portability (receive your data in a usable format)
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Opt out of sale/sharing (U.S. state laws) and limit use of sensitive data

How to submit a request (DSAR):
Fill out /privacy-request or email privacy@expressiveengagement.com. We’ll verify your identity, then respond within the legally required timeframe (generally 30 days for GDPR; 45 days for CPRA/other U.S. laws, with possible extension).

If we decline a request where a legal exception applies (e.g., we must keep invoices for tax), we’ll explain why and how to appeal when applicable.

Children & Families

Our services are designed for ages 13+. We sometimes teach younger students with parent/guardian consent. We do not knowingly collect data from children without appropriate consent. Guardians may request access/deletion via privacy@expressiveengagement.com.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, choose reputable vendors, and limit access to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever face a risk to your data, we’ll follow applicable notification laws.

Changes

We’ll post updates here and revise the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we’ll provide a more prominent notice (e.g., email or banner).
